Still on topic and recipe of sandwiches and burgers, another one would be sandwiches or burgers with bulgur. Either one, sandwich or burger is a great way to start any day, for breakfast or to be taken at dinner time. Both provide an individual, especially young children with lots of energy; and one can serve them toped with sautéed onions, tomatoes or tomato salsa and fresh watercress.
1/3 cup bulgur wheat (my aunt would purchase this from a gourmet store in Trinidad)
2 tbsp minced chives
1 tsp minced garlic
1 tsp salt
1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
3/4 cup lean ground beef or lamb
1/2 cup soft bread crumbs
1/2 tsp ground cumin
In a small bowl combine bulgur with warm water, let stand for 30 minutes until all the water has been absorbed. Combine ground beef with chives, garlic, parsley, bulgur, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, pepper and cumin.Mix until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
Shape into 4 -3/4 inch thick patties. Preheat broiler and broil for about
5 minutes per side.
