Women have always played a pivotal role in the advancement and development of agriculture, rural development and food security and nutrition, and even food entrepreneurship; as either a farmer/agriculturalist, vendor, nutritionist, or a restauranteur, or other type of food entrepreneur and also as a consumer.

With the absenteeism of most men in rural homes, and those that are there are either too busy to spend time with their families or out hustling, and give little or none at all to their families or assist with the upkeep of the home; and this have forced many women, who are homemakers and dependent on their significant other, to have no other choice, but to go out and seek additional ways and means of earning an income to assist their families and maintain themselves. It is out of this necessity that farming the land is and have become an increasing means of survival in most rural communities and amongst women and young ladies around the world, and the Caribbean is no different; as well as those interested in the industry; and even making their mark and a name for themselves in the overall development of the food and beverage industry; and today we are seeing more and more young women getting involved in agriculture and cultivating the land.

We are also seeing that these women have gone on to become much more than just farmers and agriculturalists, and have started their own businesses, by capitalizing on their produce.  They are not only selling their fresh produce to the general public, grocery stores and supermarkets and even restaurants and guesthouses; but they have turned it into marketable brands and products such as pepper sauce, jams, jellies, soaps, bath, beauty and body products and much more; and also their own restaurants, cafes and other eateries; and this have allowed them to go above and beyond in not only making great contributions to the development of the food and beverage industry and all other industries, which links the food and beverage industry; but also in changing and shaping the course of agriculture and food security and nutrition forever.

The mission and vision of the project is simple, and that is in documenting the rise of women and young ladies working in the food and beverage industry, inclusive of agriculture, tourism (agriculture, food/culinary) and all other industries linking the food and beverage industry; through photographs and stories, in telling their stories of how they got involved in the food and beverage industry, in an effort to shine light on the marvelous works that these women and young ladies are doing and the great contributions that they have made in the food and beverage industry, inclusive of agriculture, tourism (agriculture, food/culinary) and all other industries linking the food and beverage industry.

In an effort to show and highlight how they are shaping and changing the course of the food and beverage industry and thus providing hope and inspiration to the next generation of women and young ladies wishing to get involved in the industry and make their own mark in the industry; as well as bridging the gender gap and raising the awareness by, we are women and we can work just as hard and great as our male counterparts and we are here to stay and will accomplish and contribute to the overall growth and development of the food and beverage industry, inclusive of agriculture and tourism and all other industries linking the food and beverage industry.

Therefore, it is very important to gain consent from each women and young lady involved in the food and beverage industry from the farmers, agriculturalists, vendors, farm/agriculture estate owners, to the food entrepreneurs, restauranteurs, spa and beauty specialists, wine makers and other female professionals and entrepreneurs involved in the food and beverage industry, for my Documentary Photography Project; as I will be using their photographs and interviews, in telling their stories to the world.
